Cancer in the Classroom Symposium

Children and teens who are living with cancer or have a family member living with cancer may feel isolated and uncomfortable with their peers. 25% of adults living with cancer have children under the age of 18 living in their households. There are an estimated 15,780 children between the ages of birth and 19 years old who are diagnosed with cancer in the United States each year.

The 10th Annual Cancer in the Classroom Symposium hosted by Gilda’s Club Westchester is a free workshop taking place on Wednesday, February 2 from 9 AM to 1 PM via Zoom. All school professionals are invited and encouraged to attend.

This important half-day virtual event will cover the following topics:

  • Concrete information on how to support students who are living with cancer or have a family member living with cancer.
  • Creative interventions to use with students.
  • Fostering cultural humility when supporting families impacted by cancer.
  • An interactive member panel
  • Breakout sessions with discussions on:
    • Mindfulness in the classroom.
    • Student preparation during and after cancer treatment.
    • How to use coding and robotics to help students cope when cancer is in the family.

Cancer in the Classroom Symposium has become a key resource for school professionals throughout the New York region, providing comprehensive and factual information on cancer to support families and children impacted by cancer. The symposium is virtual so that all attendees can participate comfortably.
