What is an achievement/experience you’re really proud of? Why is it important to you?
An experience that I’m proud of is the 11 years I spent learning and performing Indian dance. I started dancing when I was 6 years old and became very passionate about it from a young age. Before that, I had tried many other sports like basketball, soccer, and gymnastics but I was never interested enough to stick with it. Dance was the first time that I enjoyed the activity and didn’t give up, even though it was difficult and painful in the beginning. Over the years, I dedicated lots of time to this skill and grew in my knowledge of the art form. I began to choreograph and perform on my own time, outside of my dance school, with others who shared the same passion. Overall, dance is a very important part of my life and I’ve learned so much in terms of discipline, perseverance, and leadership skills.
If you could switch places with any person, real or fictional, for a day, who would it be?
If I could switch places with anyone for a day, I would switch with someone who is my age but living in a different country. That way, I would be able to experience the culture and traditions from a firsthand perspective, but still with the point of view of an 18 year old.
What would your ultimate vacation look like?
My ultimate vacation would be the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure. One of the best parts of vacation is being able to just spend the day at the beach where you can read a book or sunbathe. It’s also really nice if the location has fun activites like ziplining or hiking. To top it all off, you have to spend some time being a tourist and go shopping or visiting famous attractions.
Where in the world would you most like to live?
As of right now, I would most like to live in Spain. There are so many aspects that I would love to experience—the culture, the food, the attractions—and it would be interesting to put my high school Spanish skills to the test!
What do you enjoy most about being part of the GCW Youth Committee?
I have really enjoyed being a part of the GCW Youth Committee these past two years. I’ve been able to meet new people in my community and bond over a similar interest. The monthly meetings are always something to look forward to as we come together to work towards a common goal in engaging ways. My favorite part has been being able to volunteer at the events that are hosted for the kids at the clubhouse because it allows me to interact and spend time with them while doing fun activities.
