Information about Coronavirus and Cancer Support Community Greater NY & CT at Gilda's Club

Dear Members and Volunteers of Cancer Support Community Greater NY & CT at Gilda’s Club,

Cancer Support Community Greater NY & CT at Gilda’s Club (CSCNYCT) is closely monitoring the COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation affecting communities across the country. We understand the increased level of public concern caused by the rising number of confirmed cases locally and nationwide and the uncertain nature of the virus.

The health and safety of our members, volunteers and staff is always our top priority. CSCNYCT is following all recommendations put forth by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and New York State Health Department.
We are asking that members, volunteers and staff follow our sick policy (see below) to help keep our community healthy. We also ask that visitors adhere to the guidelines developed by the CDC for preventing the transmission of respiratory diseases:
  • Stay home when sick. Do not return until you are fever and symptom-free for at least 24 hours.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
Members, volunteers and staff who are exhibiting any symptoms of illness will be kindly asked to go home. If you or a family member believe they may have been exposed to the COVID-19 (coronavirus), please refrain from visiting the clubhouse.
The situation relating to COVID-19 continues to evolve, and we will continue to provide updates as they become available. For more information on COVID-19 and ways to protect yourself and your family, please visit the links below.

Center for Disease Control

Cancer Support Community Greater NY & CT at Gilda’s Club (CSCNYCT) cares about the health of its members, volunteers, staff, guests, and the community. We at CSCNYCT are very mindful that some individuals may have compromised immunity and should avoid unnecessary exposure to those that are ill. In order to help prevent the transmission of contagious illnesses and conditions, CSCNYCT has adopted the following policy to reduce the risk of illness transmission.

It is the policy of CSCNYCT when an employee or volunteer feels unwell, especially when s/he has a fever, employees and volunteers should not come to work, but should stay home.

We also request that all members and guests stay home when ill or experiencing any of the following symptoms:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Body aches
  • Headache
  • Chills
  • Unusual fatigue
  • Diarrhea and vomiting

Please keep the above policy in mind for your children and teens, who are involved with activities at CSCNYCT.

It is CSCNYCT’s policy to follow the protocol of the Centers for Disease Control which provide that people with influenza-like illness should remain at home until at least 24 hours after they are free of fever (100 degrees F) or signs of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications.

Employees or volunteers who report to work ill may be sent home in accordance with this policy and the CDC health guidelines.

CSCNYCT Head Lice & Bed Bug Policy:

If you or your children exhibit signs and symptoms related to head lice or bed bug exposure, it the policy of CSCNYCT that adults and children do not attend activities at CSCNYCT until symptoms are successfully treated. We recommend adults and children not attend activities at CSCNYCT for at least one-week post symptoms; we may ask for documentation that head lice and bed bugs have been successfully treated.

In order to protect our members, volunteers, staff and the community CSCNYCT reserves the right to not allow anyone exhibiting symptoms of illness to attend CSCNYCT activities.
